Mojo’s Bar & Lounge Photo Shoot

Posted on: January 24th, 2012
Last week I got together with some of my “returning” models, Amber, Danielle and Kirsten, to do a fun themed shoot at a new bar opening in Woodland, CA.  Mojo’s Lounge (located in the familiar home of the old Morrison’s bar), they also will have a kitchen (Kitchen 428) with some delicious menu items.  This place pairs classic style with modern decor and is sure to be a popular new hangout.  I am thankful to Christy, the owner, for allowing us to come in and do this shoot.  This is actually in the same building as where the Film Noir series was shot a few months back. Makeup and hair credit goes to the talented Shea Lillard of Hairloom Salon & Spa.

Nicole Chernikova – Modeling Portfolio Shoot

Posted on: December 29th, 2011
My cousin Sara (Nicole Chernikova) is an aspiring model who has come back to California after some work in New York and LA.  It had been about 10 years since I had seen her, and it was great to visit and see what a lovely person she has become.  She is so mild and sweet its amazing to see the captivating presence she can exude through her modeling.
Here is a sampling of several looks from the shoot.  Special thanks to the Woodland Opera House for use of the ballet studio and ballet barre.

The Femme Fatale Part 3: The torture of love just out of reach

Posted on: October 10th, 2011

In social life, the femme fatale tortures her partner by denying confirmation of her affection. She usually drives him to the point of obsession and exhaustion so that he is incapable of making rational decisions.
Jen and Emily really captured the mix of emotion that adds a mystery to this type of character.  Both actresses, they delved into this persona.  I hope you enjoy the final post in this series, but be careful not to stare too long into their eyes; you may get trapped!
Note: credit for this shoot must be extended and shared with the incredible Joerg Lehmann (lighting), Veronica Marshall of Artistry Pro (makeup) and Christy Hayes of Mojo’s Lounge (location).

The Femme Fatale Part 2: There is no escape

Posted on: October 9th, 2011

The phrase “femme fatale” is French for “deadly woman”. A femme fatale tries to achieve her hidden purpose by using feminine wiles such as beauty, charm, and allure. She may also be (or imply to be) a victim, caught in a situation from which she cannot escape.

In this post we have Sarah as the femme fatale, and Sam as her dapper victim.  These two created such an amazing dramatic look.  And don’t worry: no person was harmed by second hand smoke during this shoot – its just a prop cigarette.

The Femme Fatale Part One: Who is that irresistible lady?

Posted on: October 8th, 2011

A femme fatale ( /ˌfɛm fəˈtæl/ or /ˌfɛm fəˈtɑːl/) is a mysterious and seductive woman whose charms ensnare men in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations.

For part 1 of our 3 part series I re-introduce Michelle and Danielle.  They play this part perfectly because when you look like this, its easy to imagine you have a little “femme fatale” going on.  I am so excited about this series, and hope you enjoy the late 40s feel!

Note: credit for this shoot must be extended and shared with the incredible Joerg Lehmann (lighting), Veronica Marshall of Artistry Pro (makeup), Shea Lillard (hair), and Christy Hayes of Mojo’s Lounge (location).

Film Noir Photo Shoot Part 1: It was a dark and stormy night

Posted on: October 7th, 2011
“In Noir it is always night and it always rains.”  We picked a perfect night to plan this Film Noir style shoot in Woodland, CA with skies just clearing from a storm.  The stage was set cloudy skies and a hallway full of models all made up in 40s attire.  Mysterious crimes, femme fatales, and private investigators fill the page resulting in a dramatic series of photos.  Thank you to the team of people working on this shoot: Mojo’s Lounge for use of their location (which will be an awesome place opening late November,,,), Joerg Lehmann for lighting design, Artistry Pro for makeup and general on site assistance, and to Shea Lillard for hair styling.
I wish you all could have been there to understand just how much fun this shoot was ~ but sharing the photos would be the next best thing.  Stay tuned for part 2 of the Film Noir series: Femme Fatales!

Amber @ Sacramento Factory Photo Shoot

Amber is back, and fiercer than ever.
Post 3 of the factory shoot at the future home of New Helvetia Brewing Co with Joerg and Rawi.  Amber was such a star!  I was so glad she could join us for this shoot last weekend.  What more can I say?  The camera loves her, and I loved spending some time with my cousin.  And I must say that it’s really fun shooting this dressy “glam” style for portraits.   Special thanks to Danielle for providing some of the wardrobe for this shoot!

…. Roar!

Danielle, Classic Look @ Sacramento Factory Photo Shoot

Danielle: being fabulous once more.
Part 2 of the factory shoot series in the future home of New Helvetia Brewing, set up by Joerg Lehmann and Rawi (thanks, guys!) Danielle is really in her element with the classic look, and I was so excited to take pictures of her formal attire in this industrial setting.  I wanted to use her look to romanticize the building for what it once was, or could have been ~ a glimmer of the past: sophisticated and classy. She was a joy to work with and made the shoot a lot of fun.   I appreciate her willingness/eagerness to bring costume changes and accessories, and think they really give these shots a special flair. I’ve also decided to add the new label category “glamour” to categorize this style of portraiture.  Here are some of my favorites:
