Graduation: Senior Portraits in the Snow by Sacramento Photographer

Posted on: March 3rd, 2016

A beautiful spot in the snow for some graduation portraits this February. Despite the snow on the ground, it was sunny and warm!

Anna: Studio Portraits by Sacramento Portrait photographer

Posted on: February 11th, 2014

Got some new light modifiers this month and Anna came over to help me try out the effect. We had a great time at our mini photo shoot. Special thanks to Veronica Marshall of Dolce Vita Beauty for hair and makeup!

1950s themed photo shoot by Sacramento Portrait Photographer, Woodland CA

Posted on: June 29th, 2013

My good friend (and first photography teacher!) Joerg Lehmann was going to be in the country for a few days from Australia, so I set to work on styling a shoot for us to collaborate on during his trip. Growing up in Woodland, CA, I had always wanted to check out Reiff’s gas station, and decided that this shoot was a perfect opportunity to discover it. No 1950s shoot is complete without decade appropriate hair and make-up, and that’s where our fabulous team came in! In these shots you will see hair by Amanda Walker (of Salon Jewel) and Dana Lyle (of Maribou Spa Salon), as well as makeup by Veronica Marshall (Dolce Vita Artistry Pro) and Dana Lyle. As luck would have it, I was able to borrow some vintage 50s wardrobe (special thanks to costume designers Jesse Larrosa and Denise Miles!). Jesse styled the shoot on site and helped create the looks you see. Meanwhile, Jason Spyres was on set assisting with set up and coordination, and I am so grateful he was there! Jason also helped by taking some behind the scenes photos for us that evening. Big thanks to all our models for the evening, as well: Kara Stoller, Quentin Carbajal, Danielle DeBow, Kendra Evans, Jordan Waldron, and Nick Hammang.

I must also send a thank you to Jordan for showing up in her grandpa’s classic car! It added so much to our shoot, as you will see below…

Industrial Glamour – Sacramento Portrait Photographer

Posted on: April 25th, 2013

Spent the morning in an old building with some great models! The day started out a little rainy and overcast, but once we were inside it didn’t matter as much. Special thanks to Danielle and Jordan for modeling, and to Shayn Guenther and Quinn Moreland for assisting with hair and makeup on site.

Dance Senior Portraits by Sacramento, CA Photographer

Posted on: April 24th, 2013

Last weekend we had a very special shoot in the studio at Amy Shuman Photography.  High school junior, Kennedy, and high school senior, Tate, joined us for a unique day.  Let’s just say this wasn’t your standard “senior portrait” session…  Of course, the fact that both of these girls are immensely talented dancers added to the fun.  They arrived at the studio in downtown Davis, CA for hair by Amanda Walker (of Salon Jewel), and makeup by Veronica Marshall (Dolce Vita Beauty).  Next, it was time for a custom outfit, built live “on the set” by Jesse Larrosa, costume desginer.  We started with a few portraits, and then it was time to head back to hair and makeup to add some dramatic flair for the dancing shots.  And then, the jumping began!  I loved watching the way the fabric moved with each jump and leap.  I was so happy with the end result, and the beautiful art that the team was able to create.  Enjoy!

A fun behind the scenes image of the two girls together.  These dresses were pretty heavy, and its impressive they were able to move in them.

More behind the scenes of the team hard at work.  I was working, too, but from behind the camera, of course.

And here we are, the creative team, trying to jump just like these awesome models…  “trying” is the key word…  To our credit, its really hard to know when the automatic camera timer is going to go off, so we were really just guessing with our jumps…

Before and After: Makeover Photo Shoot

Posted on: October 29th, 2012

Makeover Day!  This idea started as an idea to do something nice for my mom (pictured above) and ended up being a full day of studio fun!  Working with the fabulous hair and makeup artists Veronica Marshall and Colette DelGracia Ryder-Cobb of Dolce Vita Beauty, each model spent time getting pampered and made up for their own portrait sessions.  Next it was into the studio with me for posting and smiling and not smiling, and posing, and sitting and standing and leaning and… you get the idea.  I had been looking for a gift idea for my mom, and was going to book a portrait session for her with a photographer when I remembered… Hey!  I am a photographer!  And now I can make her a photo gift for Christmas.

Here are a few samples of the before and after shots of some amazing and beautiful women!

Barn Portraits, Davis, CA Photography

Posted on: June 20th, 2012

When I learned last week that my friend Joerg Lehmann was going to be in town from Australia for a few days, I felt inspired to put together a last minute shoot while he was here.  Joerg was a big part of some of my very favorite photographs, and every time we work together I both 1) learn something, and 2) get some great images.  The result of the fast-paced plans turned out beautifully, and we had a wonderful night and a wonderful shoot.  I must thank the tremendous team who worked on this, all of whom added something to really make this a great night:  Liz Sheesley for makeup, Kiefer Hackney for general assistance, Michelle and Brianna for modeling, Snookie Schuhwerk for providing the fabulous Stella & dot jewelry, my Nana for letting us use her house to get ready, Jaylene for granting us access to the barn, and of course to Joerg, for taking the time out of his brief visit to be a part of this shoot.  (Note:  extended galleries for this shoot can be found here and here).

Emily Studio Portraits

Posted on: May 27th, 2012

The beautiful, talented “triple threat,” Emily Kelly.  She is an amazing dancer, singer and actress and also a great model!  We have so much fun working together, and I feel so privileged to have featured her in my first dance shoot as well as the Film Noir shoot.  Watch out world ~ I am sure there are great things ahead for this lady, in college and beyond.

Ella Modeling Session

Posted on: April 11th, 2012

Ella and I connected through model mayhem and worked on this fun modeling shoot in Woodland, CA.  Ella was so much fun to work with and such a beautiful lady!  She has been doing a lot of modeling work and I foresee a lot of success for her!  Special thanks to Veronica Marshall of Artistry Pro for hair and makeup, to Joe Willard for fan work and lighting assistance, and to Shea Lillard for help on location as well!
