As I went through these photos to choose the images for the blog I couldn’t help but smile. The love these two share for each other is beautiful and contagious to all those around them. The day was truly a celebration from beginning to end, and the weather was better than anyone could hope! Clear, blue skies with warm sunshine for the ceremony at Grace Valley Church in Davis, CA, and for their portraits afterwards at the arboretum. Wishing Allison and Brian all the best as they journey through life together.
Spring, Summer, Fall… this country wedding has a vintage flair and a timeless feel. Mixing oranges, yellows, and creams, and textures of lace, burlap, and wood, this wedding has charm and grace.

Special thanks also to our wonderful couple, Danielle and Erik, to my assistant, Kelli, and to Ryan, Shawna, and Vince for their behind the scenes documenting.
I always love when actors come in to the studio for headshots. My degree is in theatre performance from SFSU and (a little known fact) I actually started my photography business with this particular client base in mind. As the years went on, I have found a love for wedding, event and portrait photography as well, but it’s always a treat to do headshots for performers. I also direct local plays and know the importance of the power a headshot adds to your audition. Wherever actors get their headshots done, its always important to connect through the eyes, and focus on showing depth.
Remember: The right headshots are an important part of any audition. Directors want to see a current, professional photo of you as they make their decisions on casting.
Kristy and Paul are so wonderful together! They love to have fun and be silly and you can’t help but see how perfect they are together when you are in their company. They are so warm, kind, and hospitable (even fed my assistant, Kelli, and I cheese and crackers half way through the session!) and a true joy to photograph. I am honored to be shooting their wedding this September in the bay area!
Inspirational Women Series, Part One: Mother’s Day contest
There are so many amazing women out there doing incredible and inspirational things, and Amy Shuman Photography wants to recognize one of these special people in a big way. To get started, we have chosen Mother’s Day as the “theme” of our first contest of the year.
Nominate a mom in your life by sharing her story. We want to know what this prize would mean to her, and why she deserves to win.
We want to hear stories about the moms out there who you love and admire. The moms whose support gets us through difficult times. The moms who sacrifice selflessly. The moms who motivate us and encourage us, lead by example, and show us strength. The moms who deserve to be thanked. You know the kind… we are talking about your moms!
… and while we are on that topic, this is my beautiful mom…

Raymond graduates in June! Here are a few favorites from his senior portrait session in Davis, CA.
Allison and Brian met through running. She started a running group on her college campus and he joined… the rest is history! When we were talking about ideas for their shoot they realized they didn’t have any photos of them running together, even though it is a big part of their lives and their story. I was happy to document this perfect day at Sacramento State University. Can’t wait to shoot their wedding in March!
It’s that time of year again! New D-SLR owners who have had a chance to test out their Christmas gifts. If you are anything like me, then you soon realized there was a lot more to these kind of cameras than you originally thought. I remember buying my Nikon D5000, looking at the back of it and thinking … “well, maybe I can find a class …”
This class is a hands-on, intro course to teach shooting in manual mode. We will cover the other modes on your camera, what they do, and how you can change the settings on your camera to get the images you are dreaming about.
You can’t learn everything about photography in just 2 and a half hours, but my goal is to give you the tools to be more confident in using your camera, and a good understanding of the terminology for the technical side of things. And I will be there with you to help answer questions!
We will also talk about composition and natural lighting, and tips for taking portraits outdoors.
Your camera was likely a big investment. Spending a little time in a class is a great way to get the most out of your new gear! Hope you can make it on Sunday, Feb 16th!
